On Friday 18th September, from 2pm–3pm, Care UK’s The Potteries, on York Road, is inviting members of the community to take part in a dementia friendly exercise session with an 80s twist, designed to support older people to stay mobile and live more independently.
Intended to accommodate people of all abilities, the sessions incorporate a range of seated exercises, using specific movements to enhance balance and flexibility.
The event will bring back the disco decade, as visitors are encouraged to wear fancy dress to bop along to the 80s music. By integrating balance foundation skills, cognitive stimulation therapy and social interaction, the sessions encourage movement and coordination while having fun.
Resident Christine Ross said:
“I am really excited for the event, especially the 80s-themed element, which will make it extra fun. I regularly attend seated yoga and Pilates, but this is my first time trying this! I used to play lots of sport, like netball, hockey and show jumping, so it is great to be able to keep exercising!”

“Keeping active is not only great for physical health, supporting mobility and cognitive function, but it’s great mentally too – joining in with a class and having some fun is a great form of social interaction.
