Ferndown Manor care home on Golf Links Road brought the spirit of the Caribbean to its residents with a colourful carnival celebration inspired by London's Notting Hill Carnival.
The event transformed the homeβs gardens into a lively street party atmosphere, complete with live reggae, steelpan, and calypso music. Residents wore bright headdresses and wristbands they had crafted themselves in the lead-up to the event.
The celebration included traditional Caribbean dishes such as jerk chicken and rice and peas, accompanied by pineapple ginger punch and mango cooler, all prepared by the homeβs head chef.
Resident Doreen Rhodes shared her enjoyment of the event, saying, βWe had a lovely afternoon. It was so much fun, and it was filled with laughter. Even though I am from London, I had never attended Notting Hill Carnival, so it was lovely to bring the carnival spirit to us. The food was very tasty too!
Sara Muslin, Home Manager at Ferndown Manor, said the event was a great success and a wonderful way to encourage residents to stay active and engaged. She added, βThemed events like this are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate culture and enjoy some dancing.β
